ABOUT BLENDON 339

An Ancient Tradition In Uptown Westerville

With ten charter members, Blendon Lodge No. 339 was established in Westerville, Ohio on October 21st, 1862. The lodge had been operating for the previous eight months with the permission of the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Abraham Lincoln was the president and the Civil War was in its second year. The population of Westerville was about 700.

We have a rich, local history here in Westerville which can be read here. A common question we get asked is “why I am a Mason“. You can also take a virtual tour of our building here!

Friends For Life

Men of all backgrounds find friends for life in Freemasonry—a bond with people you can gladly welcome into your home, with whom you can enjoy sharing family experiences and important milestones, and on whom you can count when you find life’s many demands standing in your way.

A Masonic Lodge is a great place to meet new people, expand your social circle, and have a great time with great people. They will celebrate your victories in style and support you in coming back from defeat. Yes, friends for life!

A Love of Charity

Along with a multitude of other charitable efforts, Blendon Lodge continues our tradition of sponsoring fundraising events for the Grand Lodge of Ohio and most especially The Westerville Special Olympics. We thank everyone that supports our endeavors!

Men of all vocations, races, and religions band together as Freemasons and work to make life better for each other, the local community, and society at large. Masons give charitably, volunteer, and engage in service projects. Masons also are bound by sacred ties to aid each other in times of need.

Charity and Freemasonry are essentially synonymous. Whether you’re a college student or a titan of industry, this fraternity gives you the chance to contribute in the ways that are best suited to your situation—time, talent, or treasury. Becoming a Mason means becoming charitable. And if your spirit of giving is already strong, you will find Freemasonry a powerful lens through which you can amplify your efforts. Charity drives us.

We Have Some Secrets

Secret handshakes. Passwords, Ceremonies going on behind closed doors. Well, the rumors are true. We have them all. Feel like looking online or at the library to find all the hidden stuff about the fraternity? Be our guest. What you find may or may not be accurate.

But one thing is certain: If you don’t experience the private aspects of the fraternity in a Masonic Lodge, then you’re missing out on the context that makes them part of a genuinely meaningful journey.

The ceremonial parts of Freemasonry are beautiful, enlightening, and unique walks through history, philosophy, and symbolism. Those who attempt to join just to learn a secret handshake or some of the other mysterious aspects of Freemasonry are disappointed.

But those who seek self-discovery, to gain a different perspective of the world, and to become a part of something truly great find a life-changing opportunity in Freemasonry. But, yeah, we have some secrets.
